Happy St. Patty's Day :) The girls birthday is actually later this week on March 21st. Since that is a weekday we threw them a party today - and what a party it was! I had a hard time trying to figure out if I'd have it here or rent somewhere because as happens with most 1yr old parties, most of the guests were adults (though we did have a fine contingent of kids too). Trying to cater to both adults and kids isn't easy outside of your home. Plus, this was a very special birthday so I wanted to make a big deal out of it. With some decent planning and a lot of help, the day went off much easier and enjoyable than I thought it would. Thanks to all our guests and helpers today including Grandparents Jen, Don, Kathy, Mike, and "Big Grandma" Alice. Uncle Dan, Stewart, Glenn, Tammy, Leanne, Ken, Sharyn, Ryan, Brian, Jackie, Jennifer, Sam, Jack, Marie, Xander, Jeff, Carolyn, Alyson, Doris, Frank, Natasha, Brian, Jenna and Ethan (hope I didn't miss anyone). To the folks who didn't make it or dropped by earlier - thanks and you were missed!
We did a St. Patrick's Day theme with hats, green punch, shamrocks and pots of chocolate gold coins everywhere, a couple of hearty stews, even loot bags with happy birthday greetings to the girls and a leprechaun on them. We set up our dinning room as a big play area and liked it so much we are leaving it that way until the snow is gone and some of the bigger stuff can go outside. There was a lot of toys to play with so the only "game" we did was a "pull" pinata that has a bunch of strings you pull instead of beating on it with sticks. The kids really seemed to enjoy that.
Joe made another work of art for a birthday cake in the likeness of the caterpillar from Baby Einstein and I have to say it is was pretty darn cool. Alex and Jack blew out the candles, we ate cake and then opened the lovely gifts everyone gave the girls. We took a bath with the new bath toys Carolyn and Jeff gave the kids and followed it up with storytime filled with new birthday books. Jennifer gave the girls a Little Princesses sofa that folds out into a bed and Samantha has been crawling all over it ever since. She keeps face planting then giggling about it :)
I can't believe this has been a year, it still seems sureal. What a great thing to celebrate hey? :) I've posted a ton of pictures and will get some video up soon too.
