When we heard Alex's door open Easter morning, Joe and I anxiously waited for him to run into our room talking about the baskets and little chocolate eggs in front of each of the kid's doors... but he didn't. After a few minutes I commented "he is eating the eggs" which is exactly what he was doing. When he finally opened the door it was with basket and wrapper in hand, chocolate in mouth. He didn't make the connection between the booty and the bunny but once we pointed it out he quickly caught on and wanted to go downstairs. "Hurry up and get dressed Daddy!"
The Bunny hid little chocolate eggs for Alex and big plastic eggs with Cheerios for the twins. This was the first year Alex understood hunting for eggs and that boy clearly gets his love of surprises from me. Once we figured he'd eaten enough chocolate we put everything away and started our day. A short while later when feeding the girls, I noticed Alex had gone very quiet. He had used his stepping stool to reach where we had put the chocolate "out of reach" (or failed to) and took down the HUGE kinder surprise chocolate egg we had opened. He was halfway through it before I caught on.
The girls were to young to participate in the hunt but they were fascinated by the plastic eggs. Samantha managed to open a few up to get at the cheerios. Our living room was very quickly a mess of Cheerios, chocolate eggs, wrappers, toys and easter basket grass.
We were invited to Ken and Sharyn's for turkey dinner but Joe was too sick to go so I packed up the kids, nabbed "big Grandma" Alice on the way and we had a lovely meal. Ken was also sick and didn't attend the dinner but Alyson was home which was nice :) To complete our evening, Alex started to act off, whether it was a bug, too much chocolate or over-tired I still don't know. Then Samantha spiked a fever and after a dose of medicine, got sick all over herself, me, the floor.. carpet. She was asleep in my arms before I had her cleaned up.
After a nice drive, we had a yummy dinner at Gulliver's cabin today - can my mother and father cook! Dan and Leanne where there as well. Then tonight the "easter bunny" almost had to get more eggs because we couldn't find the ones that were put aside for hiding. We have 3 baskets for the kids rooms and 3 on the floor of the living room filled with treats and toys. There are little chocolate eggs and hard plastic ones filled with cherrios hidden through the living room and dining room.
This is officially the first night the girls cribs are not next to each other since they came home. I can't say it is the first night they haven't slept in the same room because they didn't in NICU untile Sam was over a week old and when they came home they spent a lot of time taking turns sleeping with us. However, in an attempt to get them to sleep through the night AND start adding "bedtime" to our nightly routine for the girls, we put Samantha's crib in the spare bedroom temporarily. This way if/when one twin cries, there is less of a chance they will wake the other. We'll also be much more incined to leave them crying for a few extra mins instead of scooping them up ASAP befor they wake anyone else.
I absolutly hate this step, but it has been a year and we are still up every night with the girls which is no good for us or them. We are probably in for a few rough nights but hopefully it will pay off...right?
