When we heard Alex's door open Easter morning, Joe and I anxiously waited for him to run into our room talking about the baskets and little chocolate eggs in front of each of the kid's doors... but he didn't. After a few minutes I commented "he is eating the eggs" which is exactly what he was doing. When he finally opened the door it was with basket and wrapper in hand, chocolate in mouth. He didn't make the connection between the booty and the bunny but once we pointed it out he quickly caught on and wanted to go downstairs. "Hurry up and get dressed Daddy!"
The Bunny hid little chocolate eggs for Alex and big plastic eggs with Cheerios for the twins. This was the first year Alex understood hunting for eggs and that boy clearly gets his love of surprises from me. Once we figured he'd eaten enough chocolate we put everything away and started our day. A short while later when feeding the girls, I noticed Alex had gone very quiet. He had used his stepping stool to reach where we had put the chocolate "out of reach" (or failed to) and took down the HUGE kinder surprise chocolate egg we had opened. He was halfway through it before I caught on.
The girls were to young to participate in the hunt but they were fascinated by the plastic eggs. Samantha managed to open a few up to get at the cheerios. Our living room was very quickly a mess of Cheerios, chocolate eggs, wrappers, toys and easter basket grass.
We were invited to Ken and Sharyn's for turkey dinner but Joe was too sick to go so I packed up the kids, nabbed "big Grandma" Alice on the way and we had a lovely meal. Ken was also sick and didn't attend the dinner but Alyson was home which was nice :) To complete our evening, Alex started to act off, whether it was a bug, too much chocolate or over-tired I still don't know. Then Samantha spiked a fever and after a dose of medicine, got sick all over herself, me, the floor.. carpet. She was asleep in my arms before I had her cleaned up.
Mom used to have a big boxing day meal for the Byrne family when we were still the "kids". We all still poke fun at the "kids table" that most of us sat in well into adulthood with some hope of eventually graduating to the "adult" table.
This year my cousin Jennifer and her family have abruptly moved home (much to my glee) and the tradition saw a comeback at thier spotin the East End. Three of the Byrne "kids" were in attendance (Jennifer, Brian and Frank) and Nancy called while we were there. Ed, Jon, Ken and Sharyn, some friends and relatives from the Byrne side. Mom, Dad, Dan, his lady friend Leanne and her son Ryan all went. Also, instead of one or two cooks this was a potluck and there was some damn tasty food!
Sadly Joe missed out on the event. He spent most of the day at the hospital about his bad back and I suggested he stay home to rest it up. It was hard trying to get through the day with the 3 kids, feedings, baths and trying to cook for the potluck on my own. By the time Joe got home and I got to Jennifer's I was almost 2 hours late but it was well worth it! Joe was asleep when we got home and well.. he still is! He has definitly beaten our record hours of sleep since the girls come home. I'm jealous :) There are a bunch of Photos of the gathering posted. Thanks Jen and Derrick for the hospitality!
