The long awaited and much sought after eye appointment for Sarah was this morning. She is very impared in both eyes but the good news is that glasses will most likely do the trick. If they do, she won't require surgery. She actually enjoys the eye exams but by the end of the second visit, she was getting tired and uncooperative. It was perfect timing, because it emphasised her reaction when the Dr put the lens in front of her eyes that emulate her prescription. She just stopped moving completely and studied my face in total wonder. Then Joe walked in the door after washing her pacifier and the doctor said "let her look at her pacifier" but she only had eyes for Joe. It was incredible. The doctor explained that some parents get very upset when they find out their child has a serious vision issue but we are just so impressed with that little fighter. She can walk, talk, eat, watches TV, loves stories... her development is on par with her age and yet she achieved it all with THAT vision? Imagine what she'll do when she can see! Besides, we picked out the cutest pink Disney glasses and they are going to look just adorable on her.
I picked up Natasha, Alex and Samantha at the park after Sarah's appointment. A quick trip to McDonald's and Subway then we took off downtown. While Natasha ran an errand, we drove by the waterfront and Alex got to see a submarine. After some MooMoos, we walked to the submarine to see if up close and lucked into seeing it leaving the harbor. We got poured on at the harbor but Natasha got Samantha to say Sarah's name a bunch of times while playing with them and it was so cute!
After supper and a bath, Sarah was running around upstairs and Alex asked "mommy what is on Sarah's pjs? Before I could answer he read the letters "B U M"... bbuu... BUM! Mommy that says BUM!" Sarah was wearing a BUM Equipment sleeper - Alex was totally right. He is actually starting to read... and that just blows my mind.
Samantha was asleep when we came home Thursday. I took off for the gym and when I came back, Joe said "I don't know what Natasha was thinking, but when Samantha woke up and I went to get her she was wet. So I changed her thinking her diaper leaked but when I took her pants off... she didn't have a diaper on?" Well we thought this was hilarious so I HAD to call Natasha and tell her. Especially since I'm nearly done that myself so many times.
I had told Joe he had to behave and not tease Natasha mercilessly about it. I was pretty surprised when he announced the next morning: "Natasha's here. I never mentioned a thing about the diaper to her."
"Wow," I replied, "that was some show of restraint from you!"
Joe said "I did put a diaper on the outside of Samantha's PJ's though...."
The lovely and talented Nanny Natasha has started her own blog and I think it is a fabulous idea. She' had offered to write stories about her day that Joe and I have been religiously reading every day and this just takes that one step further.
We've got the coolest nanny ever :)
It was my first day back to work. I haven't been assigned on a project but I had a lovely dinner with a friend from there. I got a call from Nanny Natasha in the afternoon that prompted me to call her a nasty word starting with b and ending
with itch. She was convinced that Sarah was going to walk on her
watch and darn it, she was right! Today Sarah Norman walked 3 steps to
get at the little fishies snack in the living room. My disappointment
at missing it is overshadowed by my glee at her accomplishment. You go
girl :)
The girls feel alseep on the living room floor today while Joe was with them. The poses were worthy of pictures so here they are! They had the one year needles on Wednesday and have been fussy ever since. For the first time, Joe was able to come with me for the assesments and injections and held the girls for all 6 needles (yes 6 ). I have to give him lots of credit because he did very well through the screaming.
In other news, Sarah took her first real step today! I missed it but it was witnessed by Jen and Joe! I can't wait for her to walk and she is so very close.
This was also the first week Natasha took care of the kids. They really took to her and even though Bailey tore up a full garbage bag in the kitchen, Alex kicked her out of the bathroom and poopied all over the potty and Sarah had such a huge pee her diaper didn't hold it all - she claims she had a good first week and is enjoying it! I'm just glad we didn't scare her off ;) Sarah and Samantha are far more attached to "mom" than Alex was at this age so I was worried the girls might give Natasha a hard time. Luckily, unless they actually saw me, they were quite content with her. On Thursday Natasha and Alex make easter baskets for craft time and he is going to use his basket to collect eggs easter morning.
